Located less than 3 hours from major metro areas in Colorado (Denver, Grand Junction, Aspen, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, etc.), Salida sits in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Salida has been named as one of the Best Destinations in the West by magazines like Outdoor, VOGUE, 5280, and Sunset, to name a few.

Hundreds of participants walk in the first Purple People Powered Pride Parade sponsored by Planned Parenthood. The parade consisted of the local LGBTQIA community, their allies and family members - as well as some folks traveling from almost 200 miles away to be a part of this historic event.

The Upper Arkansas River Valley is home to the towns of Salida and Buena Vista, as well as the highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in the United States. Salida boasts the largest historic district in the state, not to mention an array hot springs options, the largest trail system for hiking and mountain biking, campgrounds, and the best rafting in the world (on the country's largest commercially-rafted river). Whew! That's a mouthful!

Salida's small town atmosphere serves as backdrop to the  most unique Pride celebration in the region. This week-long event is organized by a growing number of community volunteers, allies, and the LGBTQIA community. All of our Pride events are designed to foster a strong sense of community while celebrating our individuality.

"Welcome Home" may sound like a strange greeting, but in a place built on hospitality, we look forward to opportunities to share our community. Don't believe it? Look for the giant heart that glows on "S" Mountain every night.

From community events to prepare for the People Powered Pride Parade and the Ark Valley Pride Picnic, to dances, movies, rafting trips, hikes, mountain bike trips, hot springs, and more, you are sure to have the time of your life.

The Ark Valley Pride celebration began a flow of previously non-existent resources and funding for LGBT youth and community members. Our mission: to create a community-driven, alternative Pride experience for LGBTQIA families and allies, while generating support and resources for the community.
