AVEN Rolling out new SAFE SPACES Program

SafeSpacesStickr.jpg

The SAFE SPACE program identifies allies in the community who own/manage businesses and public spaces that LGBTQIA* individuals, families and youth can patronize, and not feel that they will be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm.  Filling out the on-line application and signing the pledge gets the participating business a sticker and certificate. When that business receives their certificate, they take a picture with it with all of the employees, as well as another photo of their entry with the sticker displayed. Once AVEN receives the images, that business will be added to the AVEN list of SAFE SPACE program participants, as well as being featured in AVEN emails and social media posts!

If someone encounters difficulty in a SAFE SPACE, they can fill out the Report a SAFE SPACE form and AVEN will contact the business and share your report. If a business or public spaces receives a report, they should communicate between AVEN and the person filing in order to keep both parties safe from any feelings of harassment.
