Sellars Project Space is proud to present the new work of artist Laurel McMechan in an exhibition titled, Folded Mountains No. 2. This exhibition opens with a reception for the artist and in conjunction with Salida's city-wide Salida Art Walk, on Saturday, June 24th from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. This exhibition can be viewed through July 21st, 2017 at 101 North F Street, upstairs in the historic Twitchell Building. Elevator access available through the alley.

McMechan's artistic process is a mixture of abstraction and working from observation. Each piece is a painted and drawn invented landscape which explores the idea of place.  The natural and built environments we inhabit are both physical and psychological territories, made from strata of perception, history, culture and personal memory.  McMechan approaches the subject through the lens of collage and cubist strategies. The act of cutting out one image and juxtaposing it with another is a visceral and direct way of making new visual meaning. McMechan's work is inspired by a simultaneous experience of the worlds we make inside our heads and exterior physical world and community we occupy with our bodies.

Sellars Project Space is located in Colorado's first Creative District in the heart of the largest Historic District. For more information visit for more information.

This exhibition is sponsored by Sellars Project Space's Partnership for Community Action (PfCA) Program. Program supporters First Street Flooring on Third, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Mike's Garage and Nature's Medicine support a variety of community building projects and programs.
