  • Sellars Project Space @ Seasons Cafe (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Early Bird Registration Ends: January 13th, 2018
Registration Closes: January 23rd, 2018

The PfCA is focused on building a stronger community and a stronger community is supported by strong businesses. Whether you look at our programs to train local youth  in our workforce or advocating for more affordable housing, the PfCA wants to help create stronger businesses in Chaffee County!

The PfCA Classroom is located at Sellars Project Space @ Seasons Cafe, 300 West Sackett Avenue in Downtown Salida, Colorado.

Earlier this year we began working with local marketing extraordinaire, Monica Gutierrez of Mariposa Marketing (read more about her below), to help create a series of much needed classes that not only fit your schedule, your time constraints, and your pocketbook but teaches you useful and actionable methods to market your business.

Discounts are available for early-bird registration, to Salida Business Alliance members ($50 off), Chamber of Commerce members ($50), and multiple-class registrations (take all 3 and save). And if it's still out of your budget, apply for one of our PfCA Community Grants. We want to be sure that you have access to the tips, tools, and knowledge to make your business stronger.

This 3-session series runs three consecutive Wednesdays: January 24th through February 7th from 5 - 7 p.m. with light refreshments provided. The focus is to give you the knowledge of where to invest your marketing dollars (even if they're limited), how to find the marketing options that are right for you, when to alter or restart your marketing approaches, and how to do it all consistently.

You will learn:

  • Basic steps to building a strong marketing foundation.

  • Effective social media tips and techniques for small businesses.

  • How to properly use events to gain exposure and sales.

  • Creative promotion strategies for event attendance, brand exposure, audience engagement and sales.

  • Tips and techniques to stand out in a tourism economy, even during shoulder season.

  • How to setup and execute a basic Facebook Advertising campaign that gets results.

  • Actionable marketing tips you can apply to your business’s marketing strategy today.

  • How to make smart marketing decisions that increase your return on investment.

Have questions? Ask the instructor directly!

A strong marketing foundation is the cornerstone for a new or growing business. This workshop series will help you create this foundation and build upon it with tangible strategies and techniques tailored for your business’s needs.  You will walk away knowing how to properly allocate your marketing dollars to make sure your business actually grows this year!

When mysterious Vianne and her child arrive in a tranquil French town in the winter of 1959, no one could have imagined the impact that she and her spirited daughter would have on the community stubbornly rooted in tradition. Within days, she opens an unusual chocolate shop, across the square from the church. Her ability to perceive her customers' desires and satisfy them with just the right confection, coaxes the villagers to abandon themselves to temptation -- just as Lent begins.

The Shepherdess of the Glaciers (2016) (NR)

from the filmmaker:

Autumn, the high plateaus of Gya-Miru Valley. A wisp of smoke rises in the midst of this stony wilderness. A rustic tent and a herd of goats in a low stone pen blend into the landscape. The sound of a radio, tuned to All India Radio, can be heard within the tent. TSERING, is sharing her humble everyday life with STANZIN, her film-maker brother. She lives alone eleven months of the year, several days’ hike from the nearest human beings. Sometimes she pays the cost of living with wild animals. As the only, and last surviving herdswoman in her family, Tsering chose the herd over marriage. The culture of her native Ladakh, steeped in Buddhist wisdom, has taught her to accept her fate and to cope with day-to-day difficulties. The blue of the sky and a song on the radio provide her with cheer. She has learned to live with hardship, without comforts. Although sometimes worried, she remains strong and confident about life. The film follows for a year her long hikes to pastures.

Midsummer in Newtown (2016) (NR)

When Newtown, Connecticut, was devastated by the loss of 20 first graders and six adults at the hands of a shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the world looked on in horror unable to fathom such a tragedy. In the emotionally powerful and uplifting new documentary Midsummer in Newtown, filmmaker Lloyd Kramer gains intimate access to three families who find hope in the transformative power of the arts.

Anchoring the film is the story of two Sandy Hook Elementary School students, Tain and Sammy, who join an exuberant cast of Newtown children — bringing healing to their young lives and to their community by staging “A ROCKIN’ Midsummer Night’s Dream,” a freewheeling musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy. Kramer follows the indomitable cast from pre-audition jitters to the triumphant opening night, where the children’s unwavering spirit steals the show. On a parallel track, the film also explores the world of Jimmy and Nelba, grieving parents determined to honor their beloved 6-year-old daughter Ana who was killed in the 2012 school shooting. While Nelba focuses on helping children, Jimmy — a Grammy®-nominated jazz saxophonist — channels his grief into music he writes and performs.

A poignant reminder that there is heroism in simply living each day, Midsummer in Newtown is a soaring testament to the artistic expression of people determined to reflect love and beauty, in spite of the horror they’ve endured.

From its founding in 1972 to its work today, PFLAG’s membership of LGBTQ people, families, and allies have united in love, embracing each other and people whose communities are often marginalized, erased or ignored.

PFLAG reaffirms that unity and inclusion and a shared commitment to human dignity of all people are critical to fight discrimination and bigotry in any form so that all families can live free of fear. We commit to fight for fairness inclusive of people’s sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic position, religion, level of mental or physical ability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other perceived or actual characteristic.

PFLAG also reaffirms its commitment to this goal which requires us to learn to be the allies that communities need. We commit to better educate ourselves, listen to others, and engage in critical conversations, ensuring that we model the inclusive behavior we wish to see in the world.

We will be more inclusive allies to create space for voices that might not otherwise be heard and amplify personal stories so that the storytellers are visible. Ark Valley's Salida PFLAG Meeting

You are invited to attend the Ark Valley PFLAG Chapter's (currently being formed) meeting at Sellars Project Space in Downtown Salida, Colorado. Food and drink provided. Come and meet other community members seeking support for families, allies and people of the LGBTQ Community in the Upper Arkansas River Valley. We will be discussing the formation of the new PFLAG chapter.

Sellars Project Space is located in the historic Twitchell Building located at 101 North F Street (upstairs). Enter the building on the 1st Street side of the building (signs will be on the door) - if you require an elevator, there is one available and is marked on the door.

Please bring your family members, friends, and allies - RSVP with the number in your party (so we can be sure to provide enough food and drink) to pflag@goPfCA.com or call/text (719) 221-9893.

__________

We will listen attentively and actively, and speak out with due diligence and clear conviction, across all barriers and borders, to ensure that all people are included, respected, and treated equally.
